Ms. Monique Yim, interdisciplinary artist, educator and curator

Monique Yim: based in Hong Kong and works globally, Yim (b.1984) is an interdisciplinary artist, educator and curator who engages in visual art performance, installation, public art and community art. She is also an art director in film, advertising and theatre. 
Engaged in art for 12 years, Yim’s works and teachings have been presented in 30 cities in Asia and Europe, in about 200 international exhibitions and festivals. In 2013, Yim curated the “Performance Art Marathon" in the West Kowloon Cultural District, Hong Kong. In the decade, she has collaborated with or commissioned by numerous local and international arts and cultural institutions, eg. MaD Asia, Hong Kong Literature House, Hong Kong Art Gallery Association, etc. Yim has actively given workshops or lectures at many overseas and local universities, schools and institutions, included in: Zentrum Karl der Grosse, Switzerland, Brno University of Technology, Czech Republic, Xiamen University, China, HKU, CUHK, CITYU, POLYU, BUHK, HKUST, HKAPA, Hong Kong School of Creativity, Hong Kong Youth Arts Foundation, Hong Kong Renaissance Foundation, South Island International School, etc. Yim’s performance artwork addressing to marriage equality, “Queer Series No.10: Ungrounded Tango” (Berlin, 2017), was awarded the "International Award for Visual Art Performance in Public Space” at Kassak Centre, Europe, in 2018. 
Her "Queer Series (since 2015)" addresses to gender, body, sexuality issue, social norm and taboo, esp. gender autonomy vs social construction of gender binary, transgender, gender ambiguous and fluid body (androgyny or genderqueer). Some of the works concern LGBTQ rights and equality. They have drawn social and media attention after being presented in Hong Kong and the globe. The series was supported by HKADC, HKHAB, Lush and overseas fundings. The art reviews were collected by Asia Art Archive and Taiwan Fountain of Creativity; and Phd research project was done by Dr Emma Kwan of Oxford University. Lately, Yim has been invited to collaborate with different LGBTQ communities in art, photography, film and education projects including the movie “A Woman Is A Woman”.
